Year 8 Eco Challenge, Malham, North Yorkshire

Friday 13th - Monday 16th March 2009

Miss Thomas, Mr Steeper and Miss Daly accompanied thirty Year 8 students to Malham Tarn Field Centre, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Eco Challenge is a three year project, offering around 7500 students from 250 schools nationwide the opportunity to experience and enjoy the natural environment. The project is funded through the National Lottery (Big Lottery Fund Changing Spaces Programme), and the Field Studies Council and The Civic Trust are jointly leading the project.

During the weekend, students participated in a range of activities relating to ‘Human Impact on the Environment', including team development, adventure challenges, and conservation challenges. They particularly enjoyed a six mile hike (!) and ‘pond dipping', and were set some interesting team challenges!

"My experience at Malham was amazing- I'd never thought about the earth like that and it was a whole different experience to what I'd expected"-Tonica Thompson (Telford College)

"I enjoyed going on the trip and learning about the environment and what will happen if we keep treating it the way we do" - Mia Coiley (Stephenson College)

"I learnt to look after our environment because we are ruining our world and using too much energy. I would definitely love to go again" Olivia Coney - (Telford College)

"My favourite part of the trip was pond dipping and the night walk" - Zak Bateson (Brunel College)
