Immersion - Children and the Media
20th & 21st September 2008
Whitgift School students had a unique opportunity to participate in an exciting global media project, entitled ‘Immersion'. The project is the latest work of award winning photojournalist Robbie Cooper, whose work over the past 15 years has been published internationally (The New York Times, Le Monde, El Pais and The Telegraph).
In his latest project, Robbie is exploring the emotional relationship between young people and the media, recording them as they play video games. The footage will be analysed by Harvard University researchers and will form the visual content for the project's press articles. The images could possibly be used for art exhibitions in the near future and will also be published online.
In November 2008, Robbie's work on ‘Immersion' will be published in both The New York Times and The Saturday Telegraph. Their magazine sections will run still images from the footage.
Robbie Cooper, Charly Smith (Producer) and Andrew Wiggins (Camera) spent the weekend with twenty five Whitgift students on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st September 2008. Students who were selected for the project attended an hour's filming session on one of these days.
Those who attended were afforded a truly exceptional opportunity to take part in a global media project with an internationally acclaimed photojournalist. More news and pictures from the project to follow!
