Austria Ski Trip 2008
According to Mr Carrington, who has been on many skiing trips, this was the best group of kids he had ever taken away skiing. From the first moment we met to the time they departed back to England the kid's behaviour, attitude and company was fantastic and were a credit to the school and their parents/guardians.
The first day was a very long day as it took ever 24 hours to get to Zell Am Zee on the bus, but with a number of DVDs observed and the banter of the Scottish bus drivers the time went by quite quickly.
Day 2 we headed for the slopes and to some of us an alien and impossible environment. The beginners group found it hard to grasp the technique with many slipping away uncontrollably down the mountain slopes.
Day 3 everyone was in full swing of things. More embarrassment occurred along with some dare devil stunts. At night we visited an ice slope and sledge run which we had to travel to via a tractor and trailer. We were packed in like animals. But the evening was good fun and full of hair raising stuff.
By day 4 the beginners were becoming more like semi-professionals and the other groups were tackling block runs head on. In the evening we went lama walking into the mountains which actually was more fun than it sounds with the occasional lama slipping over on the ice. It was quite funny.
Day 5 we went to a different resort and took on each other in a Slalom race which was competitive, fun and with all members completing with ease. The kids gave the teachers a good run for their money. At night we went swimming and experienced the ice cold water of an outdoor pool. It was not nice!
Day 6 we went to another resort where the world cup down hill championships was held. By now everyone was flying down the slopes with ease and the progress the beginner groups made from the first days antics was incredible. That night a presentation took place along with games such as Bush Tucker Trail, Dry Food Eating, Trouser Wetting and some games that will stay in Austria!
Overall the trip was an amazing success. The combination of the awesome views, great skiing, wicked fun and the behaviour of the kids made an excellent trip all round.
Many thanks to all involved.
