Sporting Highlights 2009

Football

The Year 11 football team played Healing and came from 2-0 down to draw 3-3 with a late goal from Danny Jaycock.  Special credit to captain Ryan Rice and left back Jamie Kay.  Fantastic effort from the whole team.

The Year 8 football team narrowly missed out on penalties in the semi finals of the district football tournament played here at Whitgift.  Great team spirit and attitude was shown by the whole team.  Jack Steel, Patrick Farrell and Matthew Perrin have been selected to play for the district squad.

The Year 9 football team started off with a very positive result, beating Matthew Humberstone 8-0.  They showed skill,  team spirit and represented the school with a sense of pride.

The game of the season was against Havelock School. Whitgift Year 9s were 3-0  down but instead of giving up they played with resolve and determination to claw their way back into the game which finished 4-3 to Havelock.  A tremendous performance.

Special mention to Caine Winfarrah and Bradley Skelley who play for Grimsby Town and Grimsby District.  Well done also to Josh Short and Liam Sinclair.

Cross Country

In high winds four students represented the school at Cross Country,  Courtney Green, Jessica Brandham, Jordan Heppinstall-Taylor, and Amy Strachan.  Well done to all.

Netball

The Year 9 girls won both the indoor and outdoor under 14 Grimsby and District Netball tournament for the second year running.  A great achievement.
