Headteacher's Letter

MR/BA

11th June 2008

Dear Parent/Carer

Enclosed is a copy of the letter that we received from Her Majesty's Inspector Young following our Notice to Improve Inspection on 20th May 2008.

Please read it carefully as it clearly illustrates the progress that our school is making.  In fact, HMI Young states that our school is making “good progress in addressing the key issues” identified in our Inspection in October 2007.

I would like to pick out some quotes from the letter:

“The Headteacher, together with his senior leaders, has cultivated a change in ethos and culture which is bearing fruit.”

“The school has been relentless in its commitment to raising standards.”

“The school is expected to meet its challenging target for the percentage of students gaining at least five good GCSE passes and its baseline target for the proportion reaching this threshold with English and mathematics.”

“This school is a caring organisation and this is epitomised in the corporate way staff monitor attendance rates and extol the benefits of good attendance to students.”

“The quality of teaching continues to improve.”

“The senior leadership team is tackling the areas of weakness identified at the last Inspection with vigour”.

“Governors are very ambitious for the school and discharge their duties judiciously”.

As a school we are delighted with the contents of the letter as it clearly illustrates that we are an improving school and that we are making good progress.

Finally, please rest assured that the government’s threat to close Whitgift will not materialise as our GCSE examination results this year will be the best ever and will be well above the government’s threshold of 5A*-C including English and mathematics.

Our school is going from strength to strength and is well placed to become one of the best secondary schools in North East Lincolnshire.

If you wish to contact me about the contents of this letter please do not hesitate to do so.

Yours sincerely,

Mr M Rushby
