Communication - Sanctions Feb 09

CG/TM/AC/KN

February 2009

Dear Parent/Carer,

Changes to Home/School Communication Systems - Sanctions

As part of the ongoing evaluation of the systems in use here at Whitgift, we will be changing some of our methods of communication between school and home.  Recent feedback taken from a sample of parents and carers indicates that a more direct and less paper driven communication system is preferable in the majority of instances. This is also preferable in our aim to become a more environmentally friendly school.

Consequently, from Monday 23rd February 2009, parents of any student receiving an after school detention will be notified within 24 hours by either a text message, telephone call or email.  Further details of the sanction, including the location and time of the detention, will be issued to the student in a slip format.

Our aim is to work in partnership with parents and carers in order to guide our students and we would welcome your support in discussing any sanctions with students to avoid reoccurrence. The student slip is the key to the success of this system and places the responsibility to discuss the details of the sanction with the student.

In order for this new system to work effectively, accurate information is essential and we request that you provide us with up to date contact details should they have changed recently.

Yours sincerely
